"LondonIrish have been granted a surprise stay of execution as they scramble to avoid joining Worchester and Wasps on rugby's scrapheap. The Exiles,£30 million in debt, failed to meet the deadline set by the RFU to complete their sale... But because RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney is keen to avoid a third casualty ....etc" alex spink journalist
I'd imagine that the team's founders were far from the poorest of immigrants- I'm guessing rugby-playing Irishmen may have been on the more elite side. But, even so, it's worth reflecting- had they consulted the Witch of Endor, one can only wonder what they would have made of elimination through budget shortfalls in the tens of millions.

Vale: Gino Mäder. Not sure how many people had heard of him or of Tour de Suisse before his accidental death, but,a bit like "Dakar Rally", the very existence of a cross-country race in Switzerland sends shivers through the imagination.

After the All Blacks Rugby World Cup final loss, New Zealanders might find it comforting that cricket will be included in the 2028 Olympiad. There's been plenty of questioning about whether the top tier team sports,or the millionaire games like tennis, are productive for the Olympics or the Olympics for them. What I thought seemed out-of-kilter was the host city that year- Los Angeles. We've seen this month how volatile the world situation can become overnight;can we really project amounts of international visitors anymore? If not, which phone booth do the American fans gather in?
And yet: "a little under a month after leaving their native shores on April 25 1947, Cecil, Betty and Penelope [the first platypuses to successfully reach beyond Australia alive] docked in Boston. They were driven to New York in a limousine. And the crowds went wild... Australia's ambassador to the USA formally presented the platypuses...around 5,000 people turned up at the zoo on the opening day. The press provided constant updates on the animals" CF, Platypus Matters J.ashby
