I'm interested in peoples' views on cultural Christianity. I'm putting this in the culture rather than the religion section because I think it might be of interest even to non-Christians.
Christians sometimes dismiss cultural Christianity as unimportant, even undesirable-- "better honest atheists than namby-pamby cultural Christians", that's the logic. Personally I think this is a mistake. I think cultural Christianity is good for Christianity and good for culture. I think it has a Christianizing effect on culture and it is a kind of oxygen for Christianity. Everything that leads people to Jesus has to be good, I think-- seeing Jesus of Nazareth on TV might start a journey which will bring someone to genuine faith.
This is why, although I don't really have much time for ecumenism, I think Christians denominations should have a sympathetic interest in each others' fortunes.
Interested in other peoples' views.
