Those uncultured catholic laity don't realise the mechanical spider represents the spirit of Vatican ii (21st century updated humble environmentally friendly model). We all know spiders are not scary are not really poisonous and never suck the life out of their victims.

I wonder did the nutjobs who plan these "art installations" include the Islamic community by asking them would they mind at all if we put a rather large mechanical insect on top of one of their mosques? I suspect the Islamic community may have given the response the Catholic bishop should have given.

I like spiders. I just don't want a giant mechanical one on top of a cathedral.

I like spiders. I just don't want a giant mechanical one on top of a cathedral. It's easy to like them when you live in a country that hardly has any. The WA state government actually spent a huge amount bringing one of those over here - not on a church, although St Georges Anglican cathedral often allows something like that- obviously made by the same French crowd. The project was a complete flop, people weren't really that interested. The closest I've seen is a plastic Spiderman as part of Christmas decorations, that was on the church roof of a small protestant parish.

Spiderman is actually Jewish. Cultural appropriation, innit.
