There's no denying Youtube is an incredibly powerful tool for ordinary folk to garner influence they never could have garnered in previous times. Even with the seeming crackdown on dissenting opinions (e.g., Alex Jones), it is still the best way for someone to rise from nothing to something. Servant of the Chief recently made a call for people to make Youtube channels as a way to have their voices heard. Roger Buck already has his own.
What about the other members here? Would any of you consider it? Or would that be taking things a step further than you would be comfortable with? It's obviously something that can be very daunting, being broadcast to the whole world, but it is also powerful if you can use it correctly.

I would do it except I find the technical requirements daunting. I don't have any kind of video camera. Even uploading very short videos to my blog was difficult. I agree we need more of them.

I haven't even managed to create an email address yet. That being said, actually seeing some faces is probably not the greatest of encouragements in life either

A Swedish friend of mine, who earlier told me he had discovered Roger Buck´s Youtube videos via some of the traditionalist blogs, wrote this complimentary summa in a Facebook thread the other day: "If one likes Roger Buck one has understood a lot of the world and one understands the world in a Catholic way." I liked that thought. And hopefully Roger will find it here too!

Oh Tomas. thank you posting this. Obviously I have seen it now and appreciate very much you taking time to include this.
I am really struggling to find time to be here. I am spread far too thinly over too many places on the web and very reluctantly on Facebook, as it offers better opportunity to promote the videos Ithan many places elsewhere.
I would MUCH rather be here than on Facebook and fear I'm being slightly disingenuous using (?) FB this way. But I'm in a major push to do the videos more frequently AND promote them and I haven't got all the time I wish I had for this intelligent, unusual and important forum.

Would love to see you do this. I wonder if there is anyone in the Dublin area who might help with the tech side. Another thought is that I see Dave Cullen does spoken videos with a lot of held images. Those obviously don't need the camera, are at least potentially smaller files to upload and there are MASSIVE amounts of copyright free images out there. Even if you were to read some of your best blogs - and there are great ones - into a mic and add some pictures, I think it could be very effective. But again - anyone out there who could help Maolsheachlann with the tech side?

The actual uploading I always find extraordinarily difficult. How on earth do you upload a video that lasts almost two hours?
I did a "radio show" for Radio Maria Ireland a while back, about Chesterton. I have no idea if anybody at all listened to it, and I stopped doing it eventually because it didn't seem worth the effort. But uploading the sound files onto Google Drive was always a huge ordeal. And I don't think they were ever more than half an hour.

Ah, but sure you'd learn. I'm pretty sure Youtube would have guides to help you. As Roger says, you could use pictures if you don't have a cam or don't want to show your face; assuming you have a mic. Maybe you could even do your own podcasts in the future.

It's funny, I NEVER listen to podcasts, or watch YouTube videos where I can't see someone's face (and not just a picture). I want to see the person talking. I'm not sure why. I haven't the slightest objection to speaking on camera, it's just the techcnical aspect that stops me.

I think most laptops come with a mic and camera as standard these days (built in, of course). Though the mic might not be great quality. Or the camera. I don't know.

I would like to... But I'm afraid!!! As I need to support my family and might not be able to get jobs in the future as my political and religious beliefs are not very PC. I do have the technical ability and equipment to do it.
I would be happy to help anyone and it could be an idea to have a YouTube account that service multiple voices.

Understandable. It's difficult to take on the weight of the world in regards to the criticism you would get. I don't think anyone would be blatantly biased towards you, but they could harbour secret negative feelings.

I hear you, Stephen and it is a sad and terrifying comment on our "liberal" society if a man fears being able to support his young family for things that were commonly accepted only two generations ago ... I suspect we're becoming inured to such things, as though they were normal. But it is a terrifying comment on the state of society, when one is not inured. As for the upload problems, I think for anyone with a decent internet speed it should be easy. I have unbelievably slow speed, but I manage because Youtube makes it very easy. One thing that can help is to compress the file with a program called Handbrake, which is freeware and also very easy. It compresses the file by up to 90%. Mal, I am struck by you only watching camera videos. I thought you were watching Dave Cullen's image based ones, as you recommended one such to me - but I guess it was an exception. Anyway, I still hope you'll find a way. You could do great good.

No, actually I do watch Dave Cullen's image-based videos. It's not a hard-and-fast rule.
I am planning to release a series of Catholic videos where I defend the faith through rap. In da house! In da church!
