One of the things I keep thinking about is the need for a conservative sub-culture in Ireland (and elsewhere).
What really bothers me about the liberalism and progressivism of our society is that it pervades EVERYTHING. Film reviews, sports, comedy, shopping, education...everything.
What I would really like to see, as far as possible, is some kind of conservative sub-culture where conservatives can just relax and be themselves without always having to swim against the tide, bite their tongues, or feel like the outsider. In such circumstances, one is tempted to either become embittered or simply to conform.
This is one reason why I want this forum to be about everything and to encourage discussions on every subject, even the most non-political and non-ideological.
I was thinking about this especially today, listening to a podcast I like called "Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World". You can find it on YouTube. It's quite new, it involves the Catholic apologist Jimmy Akin talking to the host about various "mysteries"-- ghosts, Bigfoot, the JFK assassination, etc. What I like about it is that the FOCUS isn't Catholicism, the Catholicism is just incidental. I wish there was more stuff like that, with both Catholicism and conservatism. I think the task for conservatives is to build an infrastructure of our own, places (both real and virtual) where we can simply be at home and not always have to be at odds with our surroundings.
I guess this doesn't leave much room for responses, but I suppose people might have their own thoughts on this.
