When is the last time you heard the National Anthem played in a public place? I can't remember the last time I heard it.
It seems a real shame. As I've said in this post already, I'm not particularly a fan of our national anthem, but I like the element of ceremony and solidarity a national anthem engenders.
RTE used to play it at the end of programming. I don't see why they couldn't return to it. I realize there is no end of programming per se, but perhaps midnight would be a good time to do so.
A campaign to revive the national anthem seems like something almost everybody could get behind it, from left to right, liberal to conservative, religious to secular.

The original 1960s film played along with the National Anthem at RTE closing time is available on you tube. It is an interesting snap shot of how Lemassian Ireland viewed itself. I love the shot at the end of the mighty Aer Lingus 707 jet taking off into the skies.
