This (text) interview with a woman who's been editor of "Arts, Factual and Drama" on RTE for Radio One for ten years is quite telling. In a rather short interview she manages to hail one film for being "a vindication of women everywhere" (I never knew women needed vindicating), describes a novel about a Danish missionary to Greenland as "a fantastic meditation on colonialism and cultural encounters", swoons over Waiting for Godot (pure nihilism), and compares American Depression-era painting with "the jingoism and extremes with which we are now all too familiar". Doubtless her replacement will be drawn from the same heap.

Posts like this provide a real service, I think. Something that should concern all conservatives in Ireland, whether Catholic, Protestant or even non-religious, is the insidious way liberal ideology has now infiltrated every corner of the Irish media and political establishment.
And yet, despite all evidence to the contrary, many people still remain insufficiently awake to the terrific, manipulative power of this.
I not only salute small posts like this which really serve to illumine what is going on in such a powerful organ as RTE, I also salute the whole initiative of this forum.
Really, I wonder if it has a potential - at least a potential - to bring together different types (Catholics, Democratic Unionists in the North, Alt-rightists, agnostics, atheists whoever) who OBJECT TO THIS INTRANSIGENT MONOLITHIC LIBERAL ESTABLISHMENT which now very much seeks to CONTROL the Irish mind.
I am embarrassed by shouting in hyperbolic capitals like that. But whether we are embarrassed or not, I think this needs to be SHOUTED FROM THE ROOFTOPS ...

I am also embarrassed because I fully realise that a goal of uniting "Catholics, Democratic Unionists in the North, Alt-rightists, agnostics, atheists whoever" as I just put it, might seem so unattainable as to invite mockery. What can I say? Divided we fall ...

Indeed, that is the main purpose of this forum. The different strands of conservatism don't really work together at all. I realize "conservatism" is a problematic label. For instance, many faithful Catholics in Ireland who strongly oppose abortion and same-sex marriage would almost shudder at the label "conservative". Similarly, many atheist libertarians would have no time for the Catholic Church, or for any organized religion. There are conservative traditions in Ireland which are very rooted in Irish nationalism and others which are rooted in the British army; those aren't exactly kissing cousins. All the same I think there is, potentially, considerable overlap of outlook-- as you say, the liberal monolith certainly needs to be opposed. I'm even hoping that thoughtful liberals might see something worth defending in conservatism, at least the freedom to be conservative...

Just a small quibble. Waiting for Godot is not pure nihilism, Beckett was one of the most God-haunted men who ever lived. All his work is about the search for God. He died with his schoolboy copy of Dante at his side. Unfortunately, contemporary critics and commentators are mainly aggressively atheist and secular and so ignore this and instead portray him as an Absurdist/quasi-humanist etc.
Thanks for setting up the forum. Looking forward to seeing it gather steam!

That's interesting, KJ. To be fair I have heard it said that there are religious or pre-religious depths in his works. It seems like nihilism to me, but I may be missing something.
Thanks for your kind words, and thanks also for joining and commenting, very pleased to hear your thoughts.
