I'm not a republican either, and I don't like Sinn Féin one little bit. But it's hard for me to think of them as pure pragmatists-- I think the ones who lived through the armed struggle (as they would term it) must have been idealists of SOME kind to risk so much. I just think their idealism was muddle-headed. They didn't seem to see the contradiction of their supposed nationalism and their Marxist internationalism.
