Okay, okay, so with the safety restrictions this is more likely, but still, this note from my local church gave me a brief kicker:
"Last Sunday we were in the unenviable position of having to turn people away as both the church and parish hall reached their safe capacity well before the start of Mass."

From my recent limited experience in a couple of churches the limit of 50 is being interpreted in quite a generous way.
I would be rather uncomfortable with anyone being refused access to Mass because some busy body had decided to unilaterally to enforce this arbitrary dictat that takes no consideration of the large size of many churches. Still I am suprised a modern version of the priest Hunter of penal times has not emerged to out dissenters and close churches down. I expect social media types don't realise a significant minority of our citizens still darken the doors of our churches.

I had to "attend" Mass by sitting in the steps of the church and following by webcam on Sunday as the capacity had been reached.

Only time will tell (about everything going on in this turnaround Global business). Limit of 50 is what we´ve had since day one in our thanks be to God not shut down parish Mass.
Good news from my same home parish: few days back we got the long awaited solution for Holy Water distribution. It has come in the form of a foot-pedaled holder manufactured somewhere in some still religiously sane remote part of Bavaria. Very practical indeed, not even the most PC-infected doubter can complain in any way or claim it contains bacteria!
Cheers for the silver lining behind last 6 month darkening clouds.

Okay, okay, I give up. I knew my one-off attempt to strike a positive note on this forum wouldn't work:-) From now on, it's back to the usual stuff about the death of the language, falling Mass attendances and the end of western civilisations. Stick to what you're good at

Stick to what you're good at I think the last cheery conservative was probably Ronald Reagan and he was unusually sunny. Generally we are a gloomy lot but there is ample reason for that. Better to moan about the darkness than pretend the candles are all shining brighter than ever before in human history is my credo! Step one in any recovery programme is admitting we have a problem.😊

Maolsheachlann recently made reference to the generally civilised and polite tone to conversations here. I also think there is a gentle sense of humour too which is a hallmark of any balanced up to date reactionary.

Alas this tentative dawn may about to falter at least in the capital if we are branded as a No 3 zone. In that eventuality all public religious ceremonies, other than funerals are banned again.
There has been a relentless media driven campaign in recent days highlighting a significant increase in Covid cases but omitting the important qualifications that most are in the under 45 age group, ICU admissions are low as are deaths. One or two medical celebrities who previously predicted tens of thousands of deaths in Ireland are disgracefully doing this again. The media naturally has failed to call them to task for their fuelling of public hysteria.
I am not a fan of the Covid conspiracy/anti mask lobby but I can see how the churning out of half truths by state bodies which are later contradicted by the same authorities is turning a significant body of opinion into suspicious and angry sceptics.

I was wondering whether Britain still had Mass (this is England?) lately? I read about an English (Protestant) church which one of the main Mayflower immigrants originally worshipped in, was baptised in; apparently donations by American tourists is one of their main sources of income- parishioners being described as being in 'single digits'... Now the Mayflower Stone in USA is being defaced, amazing how it's popularity might effect things so far away;cultural and historical connections couldn't save St Mary's Dublin from becoming a nightclub
