At Mass last Sunday the priest preached a homily that lasted under a minute. He used the expression The Great Breakdown to describe our current situation.
It struck me as a perfect label for the Covid crisis which has paralysed much of normal life throughout the world. Much of what we took for granted was taken away by a microscopic virus.
At a more profound level we are see anger and hysteria magnified by a 24/7 news cycle eager to stress anything negative or depressing. Collectively many of us seem to be breaking down.
The madder outpouring of leftist racial obsessives are now mainstream dogma on the official media. Ideas we would laugh at a few years ago are now official truths although we all know in our hearts they are sad pathetic lies. Milton invented the term Pandemonium to describe the place where all the demons dwell. We may be edging towards that abyss at least in the former civilised world. St Michael pray for us.

The instructions for churches include one to Ministers of the Eucharist and priests to "visibly" sanitise their hands. This sums a lot up for me. It seems to be more important to be seen to be doing something, rather than that there is a need to kill the virus. Whether it's the fear of busybodies or a more serious threat, the fear that, the mass being relayed over the internet, someone in government will close the churches down if they're not happy with what they see, or a power trip by church leaders I'm trying to make up my mind.
I had a look at the hygienic holy water fonts (thanks to Tomas - there is also an Irish entrepreneur making them too, I found!) but no, I think I'd rather take my chances like generations before. I wouldn't be drinking it from the font mind you, but that was never a thing was it?!

This pandemic, or possibly (?) even plandemic (even if any such guesses be dismissed with the speed of light from the trustworthy officers in charge of World political business) or least challenge, gets on the nerves. Those nations made weak by harsh lockdown measures might be hurt psychologically and morally (in part demoralised? in part opened to new threats because of all data given away that can be used to hit also and not only for good purpose in any information-based wars of contemporary kind?) somehow more than plague-wise (not counting those dead or suffering from the worst condition type here). Living in Sweden, otherwise a rather mild nation albeit Socialist-stricken in many and various ways, it is easy to be grateful for the domestic management of this particular crisis test. Some sour remarks are constantly hitting the official body dealing with these matters, mostly unfairly imho. The criticism of the government would be more apt. However bad in general they still haven´t been significant worse than other nations in this. Political football appears a bit off the point when it comes to a thing affecting all regardless of party affection. The danger in the prospect of Church being targeted is not gone. But to be sure we would absolutely be in deep loving need for some brighter information flows during 2021 and years ahead than what we have had this year.
