The tradition of practising extra fast and abstinence days, three particular days during each season of the year, and hold focus in particular to prayers for priests and vocations during those days, is one of the most interesting ones (imo) among the lesser known today. It is appealing in two ways, first because of the want and need of the thing in relation to modern days lack of young priests and religious, second because it would not feel impossible to actually maintain it (as many other traditional devotions tend to do, least in my weak "framework" personally). Does this tradition prevail in any cloisters, or even among the laity, in Ireland? And does anyone know the reason behind naming it ember??

Don't forget that the Advent Ember Days are fast approaching: December Wednesday 16, Friday 18, and Saturday 19
An old rhyme: Fasting days and Emberings be Lent, Whitsun, Holyrood, and Lucie. or Lenty, Penty, Crucy, Lucy

On this topic what do members usually do for Lent? I'd say reducing screen-time is a big one. I am doing a virtual pilgrimage of the Holy Land with Magdala.org. For every day of Lent there's a video from one of the important sites and a talk with quotations from scripture. There's also a Mass every day celebrated by an Irish priest, Fr. Eamon Kelly. Yesterday he referred to an apostolic letter from Pope Francis from last September on the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Jerome which he encouraged people to read. www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_letters/documents/papa-francesco-lettera-ap_20200930_scripturae-sacrae-affectus.html
