Cardinal Cullen the father of Catholic Ireland and the drafter of the 1870 decree of Papal infallibility has been moved in a very low key "ceremony" from Clonliffe to the pro cathedral this morning. It's a symbolic end to an era stretching from after the Great Famine to the 1990s.
To the best of my knowledge there was no information given in advance. There is a single Tweet and photo on the Archdiocesan website.
The removal was necessary as the seminary church and complex at Clonliffe were sold by the previous Bishop to the GAA for building developments . Some of this was for social housing. The GAA later sold on making a considerable profit in a short period.
There's a story here too which I suspect will be repeated as church properties ,much of which were funded by the devout poor of previous generations are auctioned off by religious congregations and dioceses.

There's a story here too which I suspect will be repeated as church properties ,much of which were funded by the devout poor of previous generations are auctioned off by religious congregations and dioceses. A biography of Australia's first cardinal (Moran, also an Irishman)that I read a couple of years ago said much about Cullen's worldwide influence and the tug-of-war between the usually papal-backed Irish camp, who largely backed Infallibility, and the less-Roman English hierarchy for Sees within the British Empire. Not unlike modern times with recent Popes,Orders and Movements (or non-movements like Opus Dei) prefering and unprefering each other for whatever reasons. GAA purchase didn't seem so bad in itself. Kentucky Fried Chicken emerging on the foundation would be less edifying (notwithstanding the latter becoming a type of western/Christmas tradition in Japan possibly due to a misidentification of the Colonel with Santa Claus)
