Whatever the idea behind the Anglo-Irish creating of the St Patrick's flag, with a cross all too suspiciously like St Andrew's, it's likely to be crossing some minds in Ireland and definitely in Scotland that the world's newest republic has the same national day, same national Saint and also uses the saltire cross among it's national symbols. As an apostle who became one of the traditional symbols of Great Britain is celebrated,Barbados installs a president, when it might have seemed polite to wait for the death of the current Head.
As I can't remember a similar event happening- a removal of Elizabeth as a country's Queen- the visit by the Prince of Wales on the event of the severing seemed strange. I suppose it's a better way than infesting the island with red coats.
Did the New York Times deliberately choose the occasion to print allegations of Charles having voiced concern about the colour of Harry's future children? "Fiction and not worth further comments" said Clarence House, but worth seeing lawyers anyway. Harry's games maybe?
