The young evangelical Protestant school teacher is an easy person to dislike. His family are home schooled , academically bright but unpopular unabashed no nonsense low church eccentrics.
Burke didn't take a more diplomatic clever sophisticated approach to this moral work dilemma like the relatively reluctant St Thomas More and his famous Great Silence on the subject of King Henry VIIIs new marriage.
He has called out this wicked fraudulent law that prioritises a childish (and most likely passing) fantasy over objective scientific truth and reality. He has refused to publically lie and has publically and loudly called out all the others who have compromised and surrendered without a peep. Virtually every catholic school now hosts Gay pride flags and communal celebrations (outside the obligatory month in June.) I am unaware of any prominent church figure objecting to this propaganda.
Tolerant liberal Ireland has her first political prisoner. A man who who be free if he publically lied. His reaction was extreme I grant but perhaps it is people like him that realise the enormity of what the Trans ideology is demanding. It deserves to be opposed completely. Someone needs to scream Stop!
St John the Baptist won no popularity prizes for his witness and fidelity. Burke is a reproach to Church leaders, parents , conservatives....He stands with the biblical prophets denouncing the evil lie that destroys the God given nature of innocents who are betrayed by parents and educators. The hard zeal of St Columbanus of old calling out the sins of the rulers of his time may not be entirely dead in Synodial Ireland 2022.

I read online varied reactions, and what you summed up is about the best of those. Not entirely right to go against Court in that way, but the prime reason for the controversy is even worse obviously. Once again there appear a "fundamentalist" Protestant on the barricade rather than a Catholic. Free speech sounds much more silent on the other side. If Court decision was formal and strict someone online suggested it may even have been a case of someone hostile taking this as excuse for stating an example. Perhaps that was unfair, to the judge.

hi all . there are clear anomalies with the treatment of Mr Burke in the media generally and in his trade union and of course all trade unions should be concerned . there is next to zero support for a incarcerated member of a union and from his professional colleagues for simply doing his job as it has been done by others in his profession for many years . the media have given the principle of the school a completely free pass and it is never drawn to our attention that we would never have heard of Mr Burke had she not introduced a ""theatre of the bizarre " into the school .

I see the judge in this case today told Enoch Burke that he should do the Christian thing and "do unto others as he would have them do unto him" when talking about his learned colleagues on the bench. No self awareness these judges. How about he practises what he preaches - or maybe he'd like to spend two months in the 'joy?

No self awareness these judges. How about he practises what he preaches - or maybe he'd like to spend two months in the 'joy? Mr Burke has certainly been treated in a terrible way. I'd be curious, though, to hear comments from anyone, perhaps Catholic in particular, who have greater familiarity with the full extent of his views? He has apparently self-published two books critiquing a couple of high-profile protestant ministers, neither of whom seem to be on the theological left as it stands today;one is a church of England clergyman who claims to deal with his attraction for other males by living a celibate life- "I was bullied at school for being gay. I now feel I'm being bullied at Synod for being same-sex attracted and faithful to the teaching of Jesus on marriage. I'm grateful that the report reaffirms the traditional doctrine of marriage. I am concerned that we are already preparing to pastorally undermine it", rev.Sam Allberry. Obviously these pastors have written and posted much- it would be difficult to comb through to find the error or nuances that Enoch Burke had issue with. But one would think that there's bigger heretical fish to fry. We learn recently that a member of the (traditionally Lutheran) Norwegian royal family has retired from royal duties to further embrace her and her partner's life of new age healing and occultism; Mr Enoch's dilemma is also symptomatic of the post-Christian society the West has become and sympathy goes to him; hopefully, though, there's no unfortunate obsessions there.

That's all interesting. I had a look at this video interview with Enoch Burke about the book and John Piper and Sam Allberry who I have to admit I hadn't heard of. I think Enoch comes across as sincere and courageous and at least once in the video I was reminded of Fr. Sean Sheehy, the Kerry priest who has been in the news in the last week or so. They are both resisting woke culture and enduring a lack of support from their bishops and the media. youtu.be/neq8Wlu36XQI had a look at the Norwegian Royals too. Very sad to see the funeral of the princess's first husband who died apparently by suicide in 2019. His own parents had separated when he was about 10 and married another couple, friends of theirs, only to re-marry in 2007. (He had also made an allegation against Kevin Spacey and made a documentary about Afghanistan).

Someone Irish posted a nasty joke on the prisoner, making a laugh on his behalf by speaking of some meme with him still being imprisoned in 2045. The low watermark of today on internet.

Enoch Burke is in prison for contempt of court because he refuses to obey a court injunction. He is being treated like any person who refuses to obey a court injunction.

Enoch Burke is in prison for contempt of court because he refuses to obey a court injunction. He is being treated like any person who refuses to obey a court injunction. Had a parent not insisted that their child be publicly treated in a different manner from their born gender , in the school Enoch Burke works in, then he wouldn't have been placed in the situation where he felt compelled to deny his conscience, biblical truths and objective science. Of course that's a small price to pacify the whims of a child who most likely will turn out to be gay or will revert back to their biological identity. As a society we pretend children can change their gender by a wish or an act of the will. We still deny childrens imaginary friends , unicorns and the tooth fairy are real though.

I agree with Enoch Burke's opinion regarding the gender issue. The school suspended him to await appearance before a board, this is normal procedure. As he would not keep away from the school, it got an injunction. Mr Burke refused to comply with the injunction which is why he is in jail. Anyone who breaks a court injunction would be treated likewise. He is not in jail because he disagrees with the school gender policies. A judgement has yet to be made on that issue. By not obeying the injunction he is distracting from his conscience issue which he had yet to dispute with the school

This looks most like a public shaming, similar to some other cases in other countries.

Unfortunately in the end he was persecuted regardless as we know. It is ridiculous that serious criminals often get suspended sentences and this stubborn man who has harmed no one is in jail for 3 months now. There should be some process of mediation or a time limit on contempt of court. Enoch Burke wants martyrdom. The state should even from self interest be reluctant to create martyrs. That's one of the lessons of Irish history.

That's one of the lessons of Irish history. There are obviously many worse crimes than stubborness. Agreed that he was wrong but the proportions are so odd that it can hardly be nothing other than the State setting an example of dislike towards people with views like him. If they could cure his stubborness, or couldn´t, it would be fair enough to let him out as showing all "sorry you´re no martyr" after such a prolonged hall of shame time.

e gas been offered opportunities to purge his contempt which he refuses to do. I would imagine that behind the scenes something us being done to try to persuade him to purge his conntempt.
He is in an awful position and has backed himself into a corner from which it will be difficult to energe and save face.
My reason fir posting here us that I object to him being described as a prisoner of conscience. He has not been charged and sentenced because of his objections to the gender issue in the school.

My reason fir posting here us that I object to him being described as a prisoner of conscience. He has not been charged and sentenced because of his objections to the gender issue in the school. He is in jail because he refuses to go along with an absurd law. The parents of this child used the law of the land to demand teachers refer to their child by a different gender from their biological one. This is an issue of conscience. It may be disturbing Mary but the Irish state does violate people's conscience. Technically he is in jail because he isn't obeying a court decision but that court is enforcing an absurd unjust law. That is an issue of conscience. Enoch Burke is in jail because of his refusal to accept that. A decade or so ago most people would laugh if anyone would claim in 2022 a parent could tell a school their daughter Susan was now Sean and any teacher not playing along would lose their job or end in jail. That's where we are at and most people don't care that our society has lost its marbles.
