I completely agree with Cato. Whatever the ostensible reason for his imprisonment, the situation only arose because he followed his conscience on the more substantive issue. He seems like a man of great integrity.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall down in that school - what do the other teachers think about it? The parents of the other children too. Do they not care, or are they devastated at the idea of their teacher in jail for three months already? I wonder have they lost pupils to other schools because of it, or maybe they've had an rush of applications from woke parents. I wonder about local Bishop Patricia Storey - is she not able or willing to do anything? It must be demeaning and discouraging for teachers knowing that children can exert this pressure on them and it must be difficult for the child at the centre of the story too. Presumably at least some of the teachers are like Enoch Burke - believing Christians. There must be teachers in other schools who have left their posts because they could not stand up to this bullying or go along with the charade.

Imagine the fear a science teacher must experience when a student in a biology class raises their hand and asks how many biological human genders there are?

That question better suited for the maths classes if any. 1+1=2 should not be too demanding.

That question better suited for the maths classes if any. 1+1=2 should not be too demanding. A favoured papal theological advisor pointed out that such narrow thinking is rigid and that sometimes 1+1 is not equal to 2!

Great to see Enoch Burke out of prison and looking so well. His family must be delighted to have him home for Christmas. The judge seemed to deny his release was a "Christmas gift" and only criticised him for turning his incarceration to his advantage as the Judge saw it. I wonder why the disciplinary hearing could not have happened earlier.

I wonder why the disciplinary hearing could not have happened earlier. I think Hilary a person has to be physically free and able to come to disciplinary meetings for such a process to proceed. I expect that will commence in the new year. I agree it's good to seem him free and it's good to see someone stick to his guns and cause great embarrassment to the Irish legal and political establishment.

From the RTE report: "In the meantime, the judge said the taxpayers were burdened with paying Mr Burke’s salary at the same time as paying for his upkeep in Mountjoy.
He said this was intolerable, especially when Mr Burke was refusing to countenance his immediate release, for reasons which made no sense."
Does...not...compute...this...person...has...principles...malfunction!

I suppose I was thinking it's a pity the school didn't foresee this type of scenario and bring in mediators early on if they couldn't handle it themselves. It sounds like no-one wanted to touch it but maybe people will think twice about calling in the lawyers and going to court after this.

Probably studiously avoid it, and go along to get along, the Irish way.
