Does anyone have strong opinions on nuclear power?
It would seem to be the clean and efficient option in comparison to the less dependable wind and solar powers. The drawback is obviously the danger of malfunction or natural disaster striking a power station such as happened at Chernobyl or Fukushima in Japan. The problem of nuclear waste is still an issue too.
Elon Musk thinks that the U.S. could be powered by a hundred square miles of solar panels in the deserts of Nevada, Utah or Texas!
Germany is on track for the closure of all its nuclear power plants by the end of 2022. On the other hand France is considering building more nuclear power plants.
I suppose the considerations for choosing particular power sources include environmental issues, safety issues, security issues and the positive goal of any nation being energy self sufficient.
It's certainly a hot topic now that governments are setting all sorts of targets to reduce fossil fuel reliance. Also the war in Ukraine illustrates the desire to be less dependent on other countries for energy.

I think it would have been best if Nuclear power never had been put in place. That was also the opinion of one of Sweden´s most conservative men in our lifetime, the late Count Magnus Stenbock, a descendant from medieval high nobility living in a small manor house with trees bushes etc outside growing wild in their natural developements, 30+ cats, and old time servants (from the Philippines, since they were the only ones deemed suited to his old patrimonial manners) and lots of time for philosophical reflections on mankind. In his book "Thoughts and remarks on some of our times questions" quite a lot of pages were given to the consequence of Nuclear power as such. Waste would be perhaps the most troublesome, since it never can be done with. Leaving an immense deadly radiation cage behind is not an honourable legacy by Modern men. Especially when there were other options! The good Count was all against it. Among his other ideas one find the most reactionary views in print last century: small holdings for common men, traditional ways of life for everyone, the local (and national) spirit, common sense, division of classes according to tradition for peaceful lives side by side, no class wars or trade union partisanship, absolute no hint of any socialism left in this real Swedish society, living by daylight, working in the fields like centuries before, etc. As we now have "safe" Nuclear stations it was a mistake to cancel them, another rushed rash sign of the nervous anti-times. That is just bad politics by the 2030 agenda globalist masters (soon to be losers?) but still it was no good choice to begin with.

If climate change is really about a harmful imminent disaster then more nuclear power seems an obvious cleaner alternative. There is the issue of waste storage but if we facing climate armagedon it is the lesser of two evils.
Our current green minister for energy is only now implementing perfectly sensible restrictions on government departments wasting electricity and heat when their offices are closed. One wonders why he didn't order this practice from day one as an example to all to cut running costs and for environmental reasons.
