Shall we make a Christmas tree gallery here of this year´s fir elects?
Not being decorated yet the green-but-conservative protagonist is at last inside home now. Sweden has 14 Celsius degrees minus at the moment, that´s equal to 6.8 Fahrenheit, so one may be satisifed to have it that way.
This type of natural fir is named "King-Fir Deluxe" (two versions, the one chosen at the lower height of max 1,5 meter) and hopefully will remain until 20th day Knut (Canute).

Unfortunately I'm not savvy enough to post images;as someone who lives with suffocating heat at Christmas, I favour different types of decoration in the Southern Hemisphere. Certain Australian trees that blossom in the season make traditional-looking ornament if that can be utilised. Certain native birds resemble robins. A large Nativity sculpted from beach sand was recently put on display in the city. But somehow a set of cards depicting a sand tree adorned with Christmas Island wildlife that I once bought didn't seem to cut it with my father;(after a few deep breaths of disapproval) "there's spiders and....all sorts of quare things on it". They were actually crabs though.

I think it's a lovely idea Tomas but I confess I don't have a Christmas tree. It's not because of environmental concerns or increassingly strapped finances but because I have several curious cats. I think I may take a risk next year though.

Mine isn't up yet. Our Christmas tree always went up late when I was growing up. Maybe I'm unconsciously following that!

This year I have heard of more early intakes than ever before. No idea why but most seem to be inside well over a week or so before Christmas Eve. Here is this morning´s (early) view of it:

Today we will see our several Christmas trees for the last day in church! Candlemas with St Blasius blessings is always a beautiful feast in the parish. Staunch conservative Bavarian Priests since well oven fifty years has made the simple parish solid, as solid can be, in the last decades. We have two grand 6-7 meters trees on each side the Altar, and 3-4 others about 3 meters high around the grand crib. Christmas offers at the crib has for the last five years or so been sent to an orphanage in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. This year it went to some group in Syria but we hope to give other help to the orphanage later on. There are Bolivians living in the parish who can bring it over personally and it is much liked because of the connection to the Seraphim Sisters there (they are a congregation of Polish Sisters that has been the core of the parish for over fifty years also).

"The giant trees are bending Their bare boughs weighed with snow And the storm is fast descending And yet I cannot go" (Emily Bronte) Nice to hear about all that. I've been curious to read Prophet's Song after all the acclaim, just reading the early part now, which is set at Christmastime, looking forward to Easter. I like it that two ageing Cherry trees covered in sleet in the principal family's garden serve as a sort of mcguffin, often attracting the gaze of the main character. Not grand like your Swedish firs- they have mildew- but romantic in another way.

Cato I'm extremely insulted by this. I took my decorations down a few days before Candlemas but I would insist I am as hardened, rigid, backwards looking and reactionary as they come! How dare you, sir!
