I can still recall Rome's Jubilee 2000 logo, I think it took a few years for most people to figure out that there were five doves there; only the interested found out that it represented five continents, keeping in mind the shifting Catholic demographic, just which landmasses were amalgamated to make five I'm still not sure. I don't recall the Vatican coming out with anything like the Luce mascot recently launched for next year's Holy Year. Despite some clever symbolism like the Compostela seashells in the girl's eyes, it somehow leaves a unpleasant taste - is a pilgrimage drive to Rome a poor imitation of the Euros or Olympics? Is it a mad dash to find a logo not designed by Fr Rupnik? or even to distance themselves from every 'Year Of' logo that we've had this century, all designed by the same? (What happens to the Irish College sanctuary for that matter?)
I think we've seen since the time of Thérèse of Lisieux that real young people, who through unfortunate early death had a youth frozen for all time, from Maria Goretti to Pier Frasatti to the many saints declared out of the many novices who died within a few years of jointing congregations, to Carlo Acutis whose upcoming canonization may break the Maria Goretti record, somehow delight and inspire well beyond what they may have done had they lived long lives- I'd speculate that deliberate cartoon-ization and souvenir-ization will prove long-term second rate.

It´s such a shame. Deliberate abuse, making some clicks but no sense. Not much to address in conciliar (pun intended!) frame of mind anymore.

The unfortunate photos of Archbishop Fisechella reaching for the Luce doll were a bit of an own goal. I really think getting "down with the youth" is at best cringey and at worst plain sleazy looking.
