I was wondering what people think of geography based theories on the development of civilisations. To me, it seems like a credible alternative to race based theories. I think it is a part of a complex explanation Guns, Germs, and Steel by Diamond is an example of such a theory. The book argues that Eurasian civilisation is not so much a product of ingenuity, but of opportunity and necessity. That is, civilisation is not created out of superior intelligence, but is the result of a chain of developments, each made possible by certain preconditions. He also has a 3 video on you tube that explains the basics of the book. The link is below. www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwZ4s8Fsv94

why would the alt right care about this over so many other topics on this forum?
There are holes in this theory, but they can be plugged with different civilisations philosophies, theologies and cultures. What do people think?

The Alt Right are always pointing out that race seems a very good predictor of how well societies will do.
I don't have any theories on this subject myself. It's a big one. Too complex for me.
