In Ireland as soon as an Irish national is arrested a high profile campaign to gain their release often commences backed by the great and the good because as we all know no one with an Irish passport ever commits a crime. When it later emerges they did in fact smuggle drugs or train FARC terrorists then no one ever admits it was a con job to get them off a foreign jail sentence.
Our current case involves the Irish born son of a leading Egyptian moslem cleric with strong links to the moslem brotherhood. The brotherhood have been involved in anti christian attacks and killings against Egyptian coptic christians. In the Irish media there has been largely no reference to Ibrahim Halawa's background which is the main reason why he is in jail for taking part in anti government demonstrations.
There is also the matter of his Irish Passport. His supporters deny a claim he burned it during the demonstrations but his current one appears to be an emergency one only recently issued. Perhaps there is an innocent explaination but if you are prepared to foolishly burn your country's passport perhaps you should learn the hard way this is a very siĺly thing to do.
The media narrative is Ibrahim is a perfectly innocent irish leaving cert tourist jailed for no reason.Tom Cloonan has said the reason why we are not marching in the streets is because we are racist. Mark Humphrys.com has all the background information on his website.

I've been wary about commenting on this one. However the rush to support him in the Irish media is quite astonishing.

I don't wish to condemn the foolishness of youth (but his entire family were also involved which suggests his parents had some ill advised role in all of this) nor would I wish my enemies to be in an Egyptian jail which are horrendous places. Perhaps the Irish media don't wish to prolong his stay by asking embarassing questions. I do think he has paid a price already and should go free but I also think Irish citizens should not be involved in foreign revolutions.

I'm not sure if anyone has heard of Efraim Benmelech, Esteban Klor or Paul Chigwidden? At any rate, the last mentioned has written an article in MSC magazine, ANNALS-August edition- quoting from statistics coming from the United States National Bureau of Economic Research(ie. The first two men mentioned) stating: "in simple numerical terms Tunisia, Saudia Arabia, Russia and Turkey have provided ISIS with the most recruits. However, when recruits are judged as a percentage of each country's Islamic population the list of countries is very different. It is topped by Finland, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden and Austria" And, at first, when I saw Ireland in black in an accompanying map,I thought it was an error!

He was born and educated in Ireland but chooses to go to Egypt in the middle of anti government protests formented by the Islamist moslem brotherhood.
His father's close links to the brotherhood is ignored by the fearless and free Irish media. It would be a little like Madame Le Pen's daughter being involved in a racist incident and no one mentioning her mother is the head of the National Front.

According to the high priestess of political correctness Justine Mc Carthy our greedy farmers hoping to export cattle to Egypt may be one factor preventing our government from sending in the army rangers to rescue the boy from Firhouse imprisoned in a Cairo jail. I bet the Wolfe Tones are working on the ballad which will be washed down in pubs with jars of Guinness.
She does mention Halawa's dad imam Sheikh Hussein Halawa and the moslem brotherhood but omits to mention any of their charming human rights policies towards homosexuals, alcohol drinkers , the non circumcised, christians ,apostates Jews or women.

Cato is suspended for ironically echoing the words of the Martin Luther King, which is blatantly racist. Not really.

I am currently self identifying as a gender fluid person of colour so your allegations of cultural appropriation are inappropriate.
I am processing my feelings after reading your comments but I feel that I am highly likely to be extremely offended. Dr King's connections with biblical christianity and the patriarchy are causing me some distress too.

This sort of thing can't be tolerated in 2017.

I'm gonna mention a perhaps controversial statement. I believe, for the sake of Irish law, even though he's only a paper Irishman, we should have him extradited to Ireland, to show how much more we'd do for someone who is a Blood Irishman.
