She is so self-righteous and annoying that she deserves her own thread. Angelo has a very good piece on the Iona Website, where he asks a key question: In the USA, the country of origin of Ms Zappone, abortions can be performed until birth. As she is actively promoting a referendum to liberalise abortion, it would be interesting to know if this is the model that Minister Zappone is advocating.

I wonder what Zappone thinks about this - should the Irish wing of the Satanic Temple have a say?

How did she get into Irish politics? Did it come before or after trying to sue us?

Just heard an interesting interview on Spirit Radio with John Pittock, former Chairman of Deloitte, who has resigned as a member of the Audit Committee in the Department of Children and Youth Affairs following Minister Zappone's recent speech. He is a strong defender of the unborn.

This woman is for me the embodiment of everything that is wrong with contemporary Ireland.
She is a Minister of State who is not even Irish. Then, she is Minister for Children etc who advocates for abortion - I mean, talk about not liking your job. She studied Theology of some form, yet pushes for this. Plus she has been involved in a couple of scandals.

This woman is for me the embodiment of everything that is wrong with contemporary Ireland. There are several people who embody everything wrong with contemporary Ireland, in my view. They are pretty much neck-and-neck. Roddy Doyle Aodhán Ó Riordán Una Mullally Katherine Zappone Donald Clarke (who I once sat beside in the audience of Claire Byrne Live) Even figures like Fintan O'Toole or Michael D. Higgins don't make this list, as they both have (in my view) some endearing traits.

The last three responses to this tweet are very good.
The one from john hanlu is classic:
People are starting to see that Limousine Liberalism benefits the elites at the top who hold the correct political opinions by manipulating people's good natures and emotions with abstract concepts like equality at the expense of the ordinary working man.
Millionaires on the telly, quango kings and queens, and tenured lecturers at UCD still have no idea why POTUS got elected, but bricklayers, cleaners, and nurse's aides I have talked to who have never heard of Edmund Burke certainly do.

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has said the decision by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone, to exclude all unborn children regardless of gestational age from the definition of ‘child’ borders on the incredible. Deputy McGrath was speaking after Minister Zappone confirmed to him in a Parliamentary Reply that for the purposes of policy formulation all existing legislative provisions are only engaged once a child is born:
“I think most people will be absolutely stunned and appalled to hear the Minister for Children apply such a discriminatory and disingenuous meaning to the definition of the word ‘child’," he said.

Kate Zappone is pictured in the Sunday Times at a rally for the cairo one with a load of moslem ladies in lovely scarves. Didn't Irish women used to wear scarves too back when the church forced everyone to go to mass? Anyway the article by Justine mc Carthy reveals Mz Zappone believes the Irish State (ie we the taxpayers) "must now provide Halawa with all his medical psychological and educational needs to compensate for his four years" (in jail)This is virtually an invite to sue the state or a demand we pay for anything he wants from us.
I am going to post the best bit of the article on the Cairo one thread.

Zappone is a truly despicable woman. She received 6.6% of the first preference votes in her constituency. It took sixteen counts to get her declared elected with 9,655 votes. Her seat is very precarious in my view. Cllr Ronan McMahon of Renua also contested it. Hopefully her assault on the right to life will wipe her out at the next election.

Thats part of the weakness of our electoral system that extreme leftists can get elected on tiny first preferences. That and current speaking rules mean that large swathes of the centre right ff/fg backbenchers don't get time to speak meaning the Dail can sound like a student union filled with marxist loonies.

This is the first I have heard of this petition - I don't know how widely it has been circulated. Over 3,000 signatures to date: Minister Zappone is not fit for office. A politician who approves of legalising the killing of preborn children cannot be a Minister for Children. It is a gross hypocrisy and her position is untenable. No child deserves to be killed.
In fact, the 8th Amendment is one of the most equality-centred amendments to the Irish Constitution...READ MORE.... citizengo.org/en/lf/56394-call-taoiseach-repeal-and-replace-childrens-minister-zappone?tc=tw&tcid=40816337
