Panti Bliss, our national clown, is in Vietnam promoting LGBT rights on behalf of Irish Aid, an agency of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He is giving a talk on "diversity in the workplace" and attending a couple of gay prides sponsored by the regime. I find this interesting because it shows as those "rights" are perfectly compatible with a dictatorship. Pinkwashing is when states or corporations want to appear more LGBT friendly in order to hide other negative elements. Vietnam is a communist country, a totalitarian state, with an appalling record on human rights but this farce will make their government look more "modern", "liberal", "western". The Irish Department of Foreign Affair is practically part of the regime's propaganda. Rather than helping the poor we are paying for Panti attending gay prides. More here: Irish government happy to promote gay rights abroad but not religious freedom

A gay friend recently "came out" to me and we had a discussion about homosexuality. I asked him what he thought of gay pride. He told me he hates it, and so do all his gay friends.

Our Department of Foreign Affairs is financing intervention in another country's system? Is that even legal? I thought there was laws against that sort of thing.
From what I understand, there are actually quite a few homosexual people who don't like the "Pride" parades because of how explicit and perverse they can be. I suppose it makes sense. If you don't want to be stereotyped, the last thing you need is for people to think that part of your lifestyle involves dressing and acting in a perverted manner in a public parade. I can't say whether this is what all Pride parades are like though. Not sure whether the ones in this country are like that.
