It may have been discussed in another thread what is happening to katie Acough. I just want to say that Katie is a wonderful person and did absolutely nothing wrong. It is a complete Witch Hunt by Vile people. She was supposed to talk at a Catholic Young Adult Conference in Belfast in two weeks but had to cancel because of this mess. www.facebook.com/CatholicYoungAdultConference/;LK

I have mixed feelings about this lady, because I read an interview with her in a UCD student publication in which she supported "consent classes" for the student body.
Consent classes are misandrist and treat all men as potential rapists.
However, I do think what is happening to her is terrible. On the other hand, it exposes the intolerance of modern Ireland further.

The Irish Conservatives Podcast with Maolsheachlann: Episode 3 - Guest starring Katie Acough.
It is pretty pathetic though. Apparently some students believed she was obliged to disclose her Pro-Life stance beforehand, so they would avoid voting for her. On the one hand, they have their right to vote for or against someone based on their stance on abortion, but the fact that they feel she had to explicitly come forth and say it really annoys the Hell out of me. Did the other candidates announce that they were Pro-Choice? I doubt they made such a demand of them. Only people with the wrong politics or religious views have to make a list explicitly stating who and what they are, and stand for. It is truly a witch-hunt.
Frankly, I was just appalled to learn UCD has a magazine revealing all this information on how and where to get abortions, etc. What a degenerate society we live in.

I actually heard two students discussing this in the library today. I couldn't hear quite well. I got the impression they were pro-impeachment, but that they weren't particularly partisan about it. One of them (a boy; the other was a girl) said he had only made up his mind the previous day.

Katie has been impeached tonight. The turn out seems very low but reached a ten per cent quota requirement. Tolerance showed its' true colours yet again.

These things are all relative Angelo but it says a lot about student politics when 80% of the electorate don't bother to vote. It also shows how a small group can get rid of someone they don't like. Being a conservative in any shape or form in third level education as an academic or even as a student is getting harder and harder. The only consolation is that sooner or later a reaction to the neo liberal compulsory orthodoxy may set in but academics and students are not renowned for independent thought. The Gerascene swine continue to charge along their merry way.

It's ironic too when you recall UCD is the offspring of Cardinal Newman's catholic university.
I wonder will people who object to incest or polygamy be allowed to hold student office in 30 years time?

I wonder will people who object to incest or polygamy be allowed to hold student office in 30 years time? A piece of trivia: The chapel of St Thomas More residential college, attached to the University of Western Australia has modern, stylised stained glass windows by Irish-born Dublin-based Richard King(+1974) Four depict Catholic university men- Newman, Bellarmine, John Fisher and bl.Contardo Ferrini. John Henry Newman is pictured in green to symbolize Ireland, holding THE IDEA OF A UNIVERSITY and is surrounded with a ancient Irish-style monastery, all symbols of his connection with the foundation of the original Catholic University of Ireland. Also depicted is the shield of the Irish National University-I assume this is an earlier term for UCD?
