I am not a fan of how Halloween has transformed but it is striking how strong and popular it has become. In Ireland it's one of our main secular liturgical feast days. I do like the way that death and horror can still grip post modern society even if largely unconsciously. It has a claim to be our oldest tradition and one that we have bequeathed to the wider world.
It is an eerry uneasy day. I am always relieved at dawn on All Saints day.
It's an interesting coincidence it also coincides with Martin Luther's revolt...

Oh, I love it. Though I am generally a laudator temporis acti, I actually like how it has snowballed since my childhood! But then, I <3 horror.
