O what bliss it was to be alive during that blessed time ... This week saw the fall of Robert Mugabe and the departure of his ideological soul mate Gerry Adams. Sometimes life is kind.

Great news from UCD on the opening of 170 gender fluid toilets .( That sounds like that stuff you squirt down a toilet to freshen it up ) I hope they are in close proximity to the library! 🤓

I have exchanged some testy emails with the tzar in charge of this diversity drive, Professor Colin Scott. All he does is appeal to some government diversity programme the university is supposed to follow. (This was before any mention of gender fluid toilets. This was when we started getting emails inviting us to diversity workshops, and then again when an exhibition celebrating gay marriage was placed outside the library.)
I even emailed the President of the University, who wrote me a rather good-humoured and fair response. I think he might be a practicing Catholic.
A student was complaining to me about what nonsense it is today. I'm rather worn down by it. It's depressing!

I think we need a thread on staying sane amidst all the gloom. Depression can quickly lead to defeatism and throwing in the towel.

I agree! I'll mull over the best way to do this.
In the words of "I Never Promised you a Rose Garden":
Then smile for a while and let's be jolly Love shouldn't be so melancholy Come along and share the good times while we can.
Although when I write it out like that, even that sounds a bit gloomy!

If you excuse a bad comment my dire thought from abroad in the cold (today - 13 degrees Celsius) and gloomy North was that "at least they have a towel"! But to be honest you not only have reason to be troubled. You also DO have some strong true Catholicism still there to conquer the worst stupidities!

As Dr. S. Freud said (according to a picture on Pinterest at least...):
"Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure you are not, in fact, surrounded by assholes."

As I read this I am surrounded by snow and the City of Dublin has announced no buses tomorrow so I face a trudge on foot to work. We will only hit -7 degrees though! Your point about the relative strength of faith here is true. We may be in bother but as of now we are still the most religious state bar Malta in Western Europe. Things could be much worse. Wrap up.
