1) the UK Troy's profess economic conservatives. They are Globalist-progressives however. 2) They strike me as fiscally and socially conservative. 3) The SDLP are progressive-left. 4, 5) FF & FG are not properly political in my view. They are more like government management consultancy firms, but without a free market to obliterate their tendency to kakistocracy. Nevertheless, globalist status quo mongers a with a hint of cute hoorism.

I don't know about the Northern Ireland situation, but I don't think any parties in the Republic are conservative, and I don't think the UK Tories are conservative. Fiscally conservative, maybe, but not a trace of social conservatism.
The across-the-board support for the gay marriage referendum, at least amongst parties with any level of representation, made me completely disillusioned with the Irish party political system.

Regarding gay marriage, me too.
Properly understood, gay marriage is actually illiberal in the classical sense. It's a concession to group rights. To take just men: gay men have always been legally allowed to marry any woman who would consent to marriage with them. Same as straight men. Two gay men have always been prevented from marrying each other. Same as two straight men. There is zero inequality here. Meanwhile, progressives redefine marriage in such a way as to exclude polyamorous people and expect to be taken seriously as proponents of equality.

Conservatism is actually rooted in Irish-Scottish Jacobitism and Stuart Restorationism, as a corrective to English mercantilism orthodoxy.
I'd love to see the re-emergence of a broad church Burkean Conservative party in Ireland along the lines of the American Republican Party. Actually, I'd even call it 'The Republican Party'; that'd be a great way to troll FF & SF!
