In our eastern neighbour a fuss has errupted over some rather school boy remarks made by former foreign secretary Boris Johnston about Burka wearers when he compared them to post boxes. As insults go it is pretty mild. It is also pretty silly. But you may not criticise the religion of peace or its' dress codes for women. Funny how it has no male dress codes or how it assumes no one gets all steamy gazing at attractive men!
Boris is refusing to apologise . He may be doing something good by refusing to grovel at the idol of "thou shall not upset the moslems". Or he might be stirring things up in a cynical way to benefit himself politically. He has messed up his ambitions to get into number 10 so far. Perhaps like his hero Churchill he needs an external existential crisis to achieve that.
Meanwhile the labour party is tearing itself apart over an anti-semitism row with its' leader comrade Corbyn refusing to disown real bigots fixated almost exclusively on Israel as the cause of all trouble in the Middle East. Johnston by muddying the waters makes it looks like all politicians are racists and xenophobes.

I finally read the original Daily Telegraph article which caused the current fuss. You can access it on reddit.
Ironically it is a liberal argument criticising those fascist Danes who have passed a law banning the Burka. Johnston discusses why it would be a bad idea to enact a similar law in England. He makes a throw away remark about post boxes. He also makes a throw away remark about taking drugs in Copenhagen but strangely this caused no negative reaction whatsoever.
