I was somewhat surprised at the generous tributes paid to Senator John mc Cain recently but I suspect it was to compare him favourably with President Trump who didn't get on with the maverick Republican.
His life included great heroism in combat and personal courage under torture in a Vietnam prison . He turned down offers of early release as others were in jail longer. In politics he was a man of intergrity and dignity. He spoke his mind and had great wit . I would dearly have liked to see him in the Oval office. May he rest in peace.

Fortunately ViêtCông supporter, Jane Fonda's comeback role came and went on the USA some months ago. BOOKCLUB was released in Australia this week, just as he died. She had claimed that tortured Americans in Vietnam were a myth. Seeing her back in magazines has caused a few Australian veterans to write letters into the paper, one today pointed out that 521 of his countrymen were killed,3000 injured, "to my veteran colleagues and me she will always be Hanoi Jane for her efforts in giving succour to our enemies". I thought it was strange that Sarah Palin wasn't invited to the McCain memorial.

“John McCain was a glorious and virtuous war-hero that only a filthy racist would vote for” is how I would describe the left’s changing attitude towards him.
