Legend has it that Prime Minister Harold Mac Millan made the above remarks when asked what can knock governments off course.
When talking to friends of late it has struck me three of the big news issues of our time - Brexit , Trump and the Papacy of Pope Francis have got to a stage were it is almost impossible to get a grasp of what is happening and if you do the situation changes again.
Media outlets tend to sensationalise these issues with constant talk about falling off cliffs catastrophes disasters. Ours is also an age of feelings, celebrity sound bite culture and emotions with little sense of history. Genuine chaos is magnified and distorted even further.
I find myself a lot telling people that Brexit and Trump are not as bad as every one tells them and may even bring about some good. The Papal crisis seems to have gone under the radar of most people. We have been cursed to live in interesting times.
