Today and over the last few weekends there have been major anti Macron riots in Paris and other French cities. Demonstrators have protested over a severe hike in carbon taxes, immigration and Macron's arrogant globalist agenda. Swept to power as the European anti Trump poster boy he now has an approval level of 18%.
The yellow vest movement includes left and right wing discontents but has no real visible leadership to date. The Macron regime is spooked and is talking about an attempt to overthrow the government . Over 85000 Gendarmarie and troops have been mobilised this weekend to protect the new "Jupiter" and his government. Despite postponing the new taxes the protests continue.
A new wave of deep unhappiness is sweeping Europe. Germany has seen a large increase in the far right. Eastern Europe is now largely Euro sceptical . Italy is threatening to disobey European Union financial rules and may provoke another Euro crisis. The bizarre official Irish love affair with Brussels continues but we are one of the exceptional nations that stubbornly believe in the infallible wisdom of the Brussels bureaucratic cabal.
Euro elections are due in May. Expect a large increase in the anti EU bloc in the European parliament. It will be interesting if anyone tries to tap the unhappiness with the EU that exists even in Ireland. VIVE LE COUNTER REVOLUTION!

I hit the like button with both a profound sense of solidarity with the ESSENCE I think you are getting at here, Cato - and also caution.
Caution, because as de Maistre says, and as I repeat here:
a Counter Revolution must aspire to non-violence. Otherwise, it becomes a form of revolution.
However, I imagine at least 95 per cent of these protests are not violent and I think you are getting again at an ESSENCE here that is profoundly important to me. An essence at the heart of everything I am doing.
I do want to stress essence very strongly though, as there is more besides the violence that also strikes me as seriously problematic in regards these matters. Matters which entail both things traditional as well as things far-right.
I am struggling for time, but later I hope to post a LONG piece here that speaks to this new Counter Revolution, better than most stuff available in the Anglosphere ...
Very glad you started this thread ... : - )

I strongly agree with Rodger Bucks remarks above about violence.
I think a non violent constitutional tradition as unglamorous as it is , and however much we take it for granted is the best way of managing change and achieving political goals. It is very much the conservative way of doing politics.
I do worry about the soft totalitarian power of the EU and the way they are trying to make a peaceful cessation from the EU impossible. If you make things imposssible frustrated people can and do turn to violence. I don't doubt many Eurocrats are sincere in their desire to maintain peace but by refusing to listen to critics of a planned European super state they may ironically make violence more likely.
