The right to protest is under threat from Abortion advocate Simon Harris. Traditionally in 20th century Ireland protest was how the left amd minorities kept their causes alive and how they made In today's Irish Independent Martina Devlin complains about pro life protests intimidating people. There have been a grand total of 2 silent protests involving around half a dozen people in each case.
Devlin says these protestors are inherently aggressive... close to bullying , imposing their moral code on others.A shooting of a UK Labour MP is even dragged in which was no relevence whatsover to this issue.
She asks rhetorically ' But should they have the right to protest publically -even if people feel anxiety as a result'? It appears she objects to protests causing anxiety but isn't it part of a protest to cause anxiety and inconvenience? What about bus strikes that hit the poorest and those without cars? Left wing protests are often nasty and offensive in particular if you are American or Jewish or as is more and more the case nowadays Catholic.
I don't think Devlin wants to ban all protests. Like the government it's only the ones that they really get annoyed with that they'll ban.
No other European country has felt a ban is compatible with the right to dissent and protest. If we do pass this new law it will be a first.

They have such a hegemony at this stage, they don't even have to pretend to be fair.

If we do pass this new law it will be a first. At least three Australian states, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, have recently banned anything like a protest within a certain zone of abortion clinics, this includes groups that just pray and others that offer alternative pro-life counselling outside. I don't think any group ever did this outside public hospitals, private clinics seem to perform the largest amount. Strangely- New South Wales and Tasmania have both reputedly got conservative governments. Rallies at other places, like parliament buildings, continue. And possibly groups continue outside the perimeter of the exclusion zone; I'm not sure how they would perform their duty of care for the volunteers- someone could just wander into the area with a leaflet or even a crucifix around their neck and be accused of harassment.

It's hardly cutting edge, nor does it require much work or analysis. Basically an appeal to feelings getting hurt by a pretty harmless bunch of middle aged or older people.

I wholeheartedly agree Assisi but Miss Devlin isn't simply voicing a personal view here. She is effectively mouthing what the establishment think and what they are planning to do.
Our media is becoming more and more Soviet like in that they police opinion and condemn the heretics who refuse to accept the new liberal order. In this case these protestors are directly linked to a lone wolf right wing extremist who murdered a female MP over Brexit. This is an outrageously nasty smear by a well paid privileged white woman.

The emergency legislation which was rushed through by a care taker government in March 2020 suspended many civil liberties including the right to peaceful protest. I had a row with some work colleagues who said I was alarmist by objecting to the suspension of this right. None of the state funded human rights bodies objected or raised any concerns at the time. This is profoundly worrying.
A group of sacked Debenhams workers were approached by Gardai and asked to go home. They complied. This was the first group affected by the ban.
Gemma O Doherty and John Waters took a high court case against the emergency laws which was widely criticised and ridiculed by the media . Their followers refused to socially distance which was foolhardy and stupid. It was ironic an unmasked RTE journalist in a group of media shouted at Gemma O Doherty "Why aren't you socially distancing"?
The events in the USA recently triggered thousands of professional protesters in Ireland to abandon the restrictions to protest about racism. To date there have been no protests about the high level of deaths in Irish care homes. Gardai did not stop the demonstrations nor did the Taoiseach condemn this flagrant violation of the law. Woke ideology is more important than public health. The media was as usual sympathetic to the protesters and asked few if any hard questions.

The events of the last few weeks in the USA - Black Lives Matter, riots , statue destroying, largely white groups taking the knee etc would keep us talking for several years.
The symbolic power of one brutal death shared on social media has sparked hysteria among the chatterati and their media allies.
In the English town of Reading a Libyian refugee stabbed several people, 3 fatally over the weekend. The same media who helped whip up a frenzy over racism are all of a sudden cautious and urging people to let the law take its course. No one must jump to any conclusions in this case .Another example of their outrageous double standards.
