Two Irish bishops have penned a letter to that journal renowned for its love of all things catholic, the Irish Times , condemning the treatment of Palestinians by the Israelis and urging a boycott of products from the occupied territories. This is an attempt to draw up support for a private members bill to ban imports from the territories to Ireland.
At times I believe the modern hierarchy are a penitential cross for the laity to endure. Israel is far from perfect but this jumping on a lefty bandwagon is rather pathetic. Of all the foreign regimes we could boycott or protest against it is strange that the Jewish state is the one singled out for lecturing and cold shouldering. The genocide of christians including within Palestinian self ruled areas and within the wider Islamic world is never mentioned in these epistles to the right minded. Criticising Islam states is bad , attacking the Jewish one is cool. Churchmen assure us real Islam is a , indeed the religion of peace.
How about a boycott of Chinese imports? China illegally invaded Tibet and continues to colonise it on a vast scale. China persecutes all religions including Catholicism inspite of the recent rather naive concordat the Vatican signed with the atheist marxist rulers of China. To challenge that would demand real courage.

As an addendum to the above. Why is that when a bishop ventures into the public sphere his politics are inevitably left of centre? For example could anyone name even one Irish or British prelate who supports Brexit?
The late Cardinal Heenan used to say a Priest's party politics should remain private between him and God lest they alienate any of their flock. Those clergy with greater responsibilities perhaps should follow suit.

I think Edward Feser nailed the reason for this phenomenon. He was talking about the death penalty, but it applies to all fashionable left-wing causes endorsed by Catholic bishops:
"The overwhelming tendency of Catholic churchmen today, however, is not only towards opposition to Catholic punishment, but opposition that presents Catholic teaching in a manner that is simplistic, one-sided, incomplete, unrigorous, and indeed often reckless. We speculate that part of the reason for this is the enormous pressure Catholic churchmen face from the surrounding secular and liberal culture. The firm and unalterable opposition of the Church to abortion, euthanasia, homosexual behaviour, and "same-sex marriage", divorce and remarriage, fornication, and other practices common in contemporary society puts Catholic bishops in the position of facing relentless and harsh criticism from opinion makers, politics activists, academics, and dissidents within the Church. The temptation to find some common ground, some way to seem to the wider culture to be progressive rather than reactionary, can be overwhelming. Vigorous opposition to the death penalty appears to them to fit the bill.""
