There have been large protests in Venezuela against the corrupt Marxist president Maduro. The opposition leader Juan Guaido has declared himself as the real president and has now been recognised by Brazil , Peru, Colombia and the USA.
A group of Venezuelian ex pats in Ireland have protested against Maduro outside Dail Eireann tonight. Sinn Fein who like to support every crack pot lefty cause internationally sent delegates to Maduro's swearing in. The various micro-marxist schismatic groups in the Dail are united mainly on symbolic issues and all hold up Venezuela and Cuba as models for us to emulate.
The Vatican naturally caused outrage recently by ignoring serious human rights violations and widespread poverty caused by state policy in this oil rich state. It called for "dialogue" between the state and the suffering masses.

But their Marxist tendencies seem very deep-seated.

Marxism... appears to leaven slow and steady till it infects the whole world, and simultaneously making dough for its countless slave employees in the bargain. I didn´t even know Sinn Fein were a Marxist party before I found out in Irish websites only a few years back.

Sinn Fein has been very good at washing over their crimson Marxist heart with a green paint job over the years. Most simply don't notice until its already too late.

Historically, when did that Marxist centre came in? Was it there already from the beginning or did it come in the 1960s? It was there in the 1930s if not earlier. The First Dail even tried to get diplomatic recognition from the Bolsheviks in Russia. I think they were successful but no one in Ireland wanted the notoriety that publicising that fact would involve.Sinn Fein and the IRA had various debates and splits in the 1930s over ideology but the core belief was opposition to British imperialism . There was a strong left wing social justice element which downplayed but didn't entirely disown violence. Frank Ryan a prominent IRA figure fought for the left in Spain and got captured by the Nationalists. He got out of jail thanks to interventions from De Valera and then went to Nazi Germany seeking aid to fight for a united Ireland under Nazi protection, which shows how politically ecumenical the 1930s IRA was. In the 1980s the provos had support too from right wing Americans , Islamic Iran and the late non lamented Col. Gaddafi of Libya who supplied tons of Czech explosives and Soviet weaponry. Marxist ideology in the IRA was at the heart of the formation of the provisional IRA in 1969 which ironically was anti Marxist at first. The left wing IRA of the 1960s which had concentrated on social justice agitation had neglected ITS military role and had been largely useless in defending Nationalists against loyalist mobs. The graffiti IRA = I ran away comes from this time. The provos and modern Sinn Fein did in turn become pro Marxist. They were anti the EU for a long period but seem to have changed when they got Euro cash on entering the European parliament. Similarly I remember 1980s Sinn Fein denying it was a pro abortion party to pacify its core supporters.

Thanks for historical summary Cato. Truths more bleak/black than any narrow propaganda sleight of hand. Marxism tends to eat its own victims morals? When Faith gives way only surrogate ideology remains... modern POLITICS bred by hate instead of religion (love)... What's next?

I find Sinn Fein a deeply cynical and opportunistic political party even by the standards of the polluted world of politics in general.
In essence they are now an anti-Catholic and anti-Nationalist party. Sinn Fein have betrayed both by unashamedly celebrating abortion and wholeheartedly supporting sovereignty from Brussels. Some people are beginning to see this thankfully.
Many Sinn Fein supporters on the ground are probably not marxists, particularly amongst their rural support. They are supporting Sinn Fein by habit and because of a wish for a united Ireland.
They tend to have a strong network of party workers on the ground that help people with advice on housing or health problems. Some of this is because they had a surfeit of activists on the ground during the troubles.
If I was generous to Sinn Fein I could say that an element of their Marxism is a corruption of the historic sympathy the Irish had with smaller countries and peoples (like 'poor little Belgium' in the 1st world war) in the 20th century. Sinn Fein loves to be seen travelling to the Basque country and also supporting the Catalans, Palestinians and Kurds. I think they have an inflated opinion of themselves as experts in peace negotiations after the N.Ireland peace process was brokered and consider their rightful place is on the international stage.
However, I won't be generous to Sinn Fein as everything they do is calculated. They may end up being just too smart for their own good and will hopefully calculate badly.
