The most extreme ideological minister in the current worst Irish government Katherine Zappone has been attempting to sort out the scourge of child sexual abuse in Irish Scouting. Every organisation which involves young people does attract a nasty minority of abusers and the law must do all to protect the innocent.
Zappone advocates a ban on overnight trips which involve hiking and campaign trips which strikes at the heart of what scouting is about. Irish scouting is 111 years old but it seems that political correctness and an over zealous desire to protect may destroy this very important group. Knowing her ideology, I wonder does it play a role in this radical demand? The child protection agency Tusla compiled the report but the minister chose to make it public undermining the many good adults who wiĺlingly and for no gain volunteer in scouting.
The Irish state in its desire to protect children is steadily banning , regulating and restricting voluntary activities. Much of this is sadly necessary but we are now in danger of destroying important civic organisations that help to form and mould responsible independent young citizens.
Perhaps Wicca Ireland could organise some spiral dancing groups for all the former now heavily protected scouts?

The most extreme ideological minister in the current worst Irish government Katherine Zappone has been attempting to sort out the scourge of child sexual abuse in Irish Scouting...etc.... Perhaps Wicca Ireland could organise some spiral dancing groups for all the former now heavily protected scouts? Actually the Boy scouts in Perth (officially Anglican in Australia) apparently (about late Eighties or early Nineties) had leaders involved in occultism and hypnotism who also committed abused their charges, it seems to have been well known and documented after it was 'busted'. On a lighter note,I only learnt recently that John Bradburne, whose cause for sainthood has opened, was a great-grandson of Robert BadenPowell. He tried to join several religious orders in England after his conversion but ended up living as a secular (3rd order) Franciscan until his death by violence in 1979.
