The above date will have the same significance in the North as May 25 2018 has in the Republic. From midnight tonight the sections of the Victorian era law prohibiting abortion will be repealed totally decriminalising abortion in the province. Abortion will be widely available from March 31 2020.
An attempt to reconvene Stormont to head off the new law was foiled by the SDLP and Sinn Fein who did not attend the sitting.
The shameful role of nationalist catholic politicians in both juristictions is one of the most dispicable aspects of how Ireland abandoned the rights of unborn babies. Those who come from a faith that values all life are embracing the values of Herod and call themselves caring and compassionate. Another dark day for our land.

I switched on Radio na Gaeltachta this morning. A woman with a Northern Irish accent was saying something about human rights. The presenter said: "Well, what about the human rights of the unborn child?". A male voice said: "I'm not going to answer that question" and changed the focus of the discussion.
I switched the radio off. Sickening.

We rightly lament the cruel and scandalous treatment of the unwanted in decades gone by.
Today we still disguise our cruelty towards the unwanted with euphemisms and cowardly weasel like silence.
