This isn't satire, apparently. Six locations in Ireland were discussed by government officials as possible sites for a new autonomous city named Nextpolis proposed by a wealthy Hong Kong businessman, The Times can reveal.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has been in contact with the Victoria Harbour Group (VHG), an international charter city investment company, since December about a plan to create a city from scratch that would be home to tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents.

Two thoughts about this come to mind. History goes in cycles . Much of European colonisation was originally a free market business which was taken over by state players. It's like history turned upside down for Chinese to be seeking to lease a section of European territory just as the Germans Italians French Americans Portugese Japanese and British did to China in the 19th century.
The Communist Chinese have been doing this in Africa and Sri Lanka for some time but our narrow media have ignored it.
The second point is that this proposal , (which is probably never going to happen) is only a more blatant example of what our government plans anyways for our future with immigration levels planned to rise significantly all over Ireland. I would actually prefer to lease a new city to this company and in return restrict all immigration to the rest of Ireland which could then become a safe space for Irish people.

Some of us might recall the wheeze thought up by some bright spark in Government to flog off Irish passports to anyone willing to invest cash in Ireland several decades ago.
And then Irish passports pop up in all sorts of weird places. The CIA and Mossad are rumoured to have found them particularlu useful in black ops in the Middle East. Perhaps these were forgeries but then maybe they can be bought at bargain basement rates. Nothing should suprise us.
Sure what harm could cheapening our citizenship cause?
