It strikes me that this forum might become quite a record of controversies, as seen from an Irish conservative perspective. Looking at its previous threads is already a bit of a survey of recent talking points. An archive recording the anarchy and collective self righteous lunacy that passes as normality in 2017? That isnt a reference to the counter cultural views of the wonderful posters here!

Misandry from women really bothers me. This is a subject on which I am a very special snowflake. I get depressed hearing all the man-bashing from some women, though of course I realize that this is a vocal minority. When I was a teenager and first encountered feminist discourse, it really got to me. (Of course, you get men-bashing from man, but I realize this is just virtue-signalling or self-hatred.) I tend to avoid commenting on feminism too much because I can't be objective about it.

I tend to avoid commenting on feminism too much because I can't be objective about it. First Wave Feminism started out as a really good thing - allowing women to vote, become doctors/accountants/scientists, etc. Unfortunately, during the Second Wave it got hijacked by Cultural Marxists who deliberately used it as a tool of social engineering to turn men and women against each other, by turning women en masse against men (misandry), which would then provoke a backlash whereby men turned against women (misogyny). The misandry in most of today's feminist movement is very real, and has permeated into nearly every institution in our society. Unfortunately, most women have been miseducated and don't realise how they have been manipulated and used in this regard.

Yes, that is a good article.
Indeed, both feminism and manospherism (from what I have heard about it indirectly) seem to have this in common with each other, and with leftism in general-- they see everything in terms of power and domination, never love, loyalty and service. A nightmare vision!

Pigs have flown. I actually agree with Fintan O'Toole on something:

Systematic sexism? What's he talking about there?
I just heard Charlie Flanagan on the radio a while ago (not sure what station, but I'm assuming RTÉ). Once again he was asked about George Hook, repeated the same crap he said before, and was even asked by the host (don't know her name) what Hook's comments say about attitudes towards rape.
Are these morons serious? I suppose we should all just keep our mouths shut, say nothing, and let women get raped if they make bad decisions (and for anyone who wants to be a disingenuous moron, no I'm not saying all women could have done anything about it). This guy is a minister for Justice, and he acts like a weak-kneed little sissy. The Irish deserve and need better than that. Do you think it's time we started putting pressure on the minister and any outlet that pushes this tripe by sending emails, etc? If some people can get offended over non-sense, why can't we be offended over actual problems?

I wonder what those weasely words of Fintan O Toole actually mean? What is he looking for? It seems he wants Hook's head but doesn't want to say it plainly. It seems there is a deliberate strategy on the liberal left to minimise the ammount of acceptable discourse on controversial subjects by creating an hysteria when someone verbally transgresses or says the wrong thing. An apology is no longer adequate. The heretic must be silenced humilated and sacked. The intention -To punish him and to warn others that we must not offend. It is also a colonising of public opinion determining what or what is not allowed to be said. Free speech is being attacked by stealth.

I read O'Toole's comments differently - in my view he is trying to distance himself completely from any call to silence or scapegoat Hook. This is the part of his statement I agree with. With regard to "systemic sexism" at Newstalk - that's rubbish as far as I know, so I should clarify that I do not agree with that part of his statement. With regard to the overall strategy, it's a Stalinist one whereby enemies of the state are to be pushed out of public life. They are using a baying lynch mob to achieve their objectives. No need for Stasi or Brownshirts. This is what Kruschev meant by "we will bury you from within." For those who believe in Fatima, it's what Our Lady meant when she said "Russia will spread the errors of her ways."

George has just been suspended by Newstalk. Not looking good but it's not a sacking yet. I wonder were his employers hoping he would resign?

This is a shot across the bow from the Irish Intelligentsia that could backfire by energizing the normal people of Ireland who know that saying that it's unwise to leave your front door unlocked when you leave for a holiday is in no way condoning burglary.

I wonder about how management at Newstalk are handling this affair purely in terms of fair play and proper workplace procedure.
I think as soon as a controversy arose they should a) Ideally in my view state clearly George Hook had apologised and that was sufficent. Move on please.
Or even better have you snow flakes never heard of free speech?(but it is fantasy to imagine that Newstalk would do this. Interestingly the editor of the Irish Times Geraldine Kennedy took that stance over the infamous Kevin Myers "Bastards" article. That type of liberalism is sadly dead)
B) Disciplined the staff who circulated a letter clearly bullying and targeting George Hook. It would also appear the bullies who only got a third of the staff to sign then leaked the complaint to the wider public media. This is blatant personal harassment and bullying and I hope the instigators are severely dealt with.

It only comes into play where state action is involved, which is not the case here.

He hasn't committed any crime. He is paid to be controversial. Some people don't like his opinion. Therefore he must be sacked?
I think he should scream Free Speech and get some senior counsels to sue the pants of Newstalk for sacking him or the very least putting him through an ordeal for speaking his mind. If the right Free speech is not fought for it will cease to mean anything. Perhaps the courts need to explicitly lay down what is permitted rather than a hysterical liberal mob.
