Well, populists often are quite socially conservative. But not enough, I agree.

I think the idea of lumping all syrians together as "refugees" was mischevious too. Some for example the christians are a small minority that were being prosecuted for religious reasons. It would have made perfect sense for christian refugees to have been given refuge in broadly similar cultures ie the West and the fabulously rich gulf states could have settled moslem refugees in Islamic states.
After world war ii there were large ammounts of displaced people. Not all were jews or innocent civilians . War criminals and large numbers of former SS were also technically refugees.

I don't know if anyone is familiar with Russell Brand, English comedian turned left leaning political commentator, and Adam Curtis, English political documentary maker. But the podcast below is well worth listening to as Curtis has an interesting take on the big picture global political situation, individualism and the way the world is going and being run. It is well worth listening to also for the cringe factor, as Russell Brand tries to be frivolous in parts and fails miserably as Curtis reacts with as stony a silence as possible and in fact calls Brand out as an example of the individual narcissist that is all too common now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca6rDzGWhjE

I had to tune out Brand's empty rants, but I agree with a lot of what Curtis says. It's a pleasure to listen to an independent thinker (regardless of whether they come from the Left or the Right), for they are so rare.
