New Zealand's Crusaders rugby team are apparently thinking of changing their name now to avoid offence to Muslims. . Yes, good move. And while they're at it they may as well try to cease existing altogether as they are just a damn nuisance being mostly white and male. Well they probably would except that I think rugby players there are mostly of Maori or Polynesian blood. On the political side it is intriguing that a cyclone in Mozambique that killed a thousand people on the same week was very much a second-class news-story and is now largely forgotten about. And then the irony of Ms Ardern's hijab-wearing image being projected on the tallest building in UAE- she left Mormonism due to it's stand on homosexuality, while people in that most forward-looking of Muslim nations are jailed for the same. On a lighter note: a friend that just returned from South Island visited an interesting church, known as St Patrick's Basilica in a tiny township named Waimate, it doesn't seem to have formally received the title but the elegance of the building for the size of the seating had led it to be called such. It's said that a progressive priest removed all statues at one stage but they are now returned and tastefully restored in pale colours and St Patrick stands in glory. A curious photo showed a St Cecilia fitted into the base of the spiral staircase leading up to the organ-loft. Unfortunately the original altar is probably gone for good.

Brenton Tarrant the New Zealand terrorist has succeeded in advancing many of the values he presumably opposes.
New Zealand will ban assault rifles shortly. This had been a matter of some debate in New Zealand but now no one dares oppose the new restrictions.
The media and leftist establishment have been given ample material to fuel the Islamaphobia argument that the real issue is hatred of Moslems. If only we silence the haters then we will all live in peace. The real victims of Islamic terror and violence are ignored and written out of the narrative.
Symbolically Islam has moved into centre stage in New Zealand. Last week the Islamic call to prayer was broadcast on national media in what was once a Christian land. I wonder how the Immans interpretated what charitably might be seen as an act of human solidarity? The Prime minister has been seen in a head scarf on numerous occasions as well.
The scarf issue is interesting as it is argued this is an act of solidarity with Islamic women. What about all those women in Islamic states who are jailed and assaulted for not wearing the scarf or burqa? Similarly the New Zealand prime minister abandoned her Mormon faith over its "homophobic" attitudes . Wearing the veil is hardly sensitive to gay people stoned to death or hanged from cranes in Iran.
Today the New Zealand prime minister was seen in a Maori cloak. I am not one for PC niceities but it is surely crass to be indulging in this type of gesture politics. I know very little about New Zealand politics but it strikes me the good P.M. is really concerned about striking the appropriate pose in her media audiences.

I know very little about New Zealand politics but it strikes me the good P.M. is really concerned about striking the appropriate pose in her media audiences. It is hilarious listening to progressives trying to explain their inconsistencies when it comes to Islam. I think the real logic is something like this: 1) Islam is the biggest non-Christian religion and, historically, Christianity's most bitter opponent among the world religions. Therefore, being pro-Islam is a way to be anti-Christianity. 2) Muslims tend to be darker-skinned than Western Christians, on the whole. And it's only really Western Christians that progressives have their beef with. So the fact that hundreds of millions of Christians are dark-skinned doesn't come into it. And non-white is always better than white, to progressives-- they are obsessed with race. As a matter of fact, I do think it's important to have sensitivity towards Islam. We could linger on the concept of jihad, or the fact that it was spread at the point of the sword, or the persecution of Christians and other religions in many Islamic countries. That's all legitimate and even necessary in certain contexts. But I'm always aware that the majority of Muslims are simply practicing the faith that was passed onto them, and has all the associations of family, tradition and homeland which is also important to conservatives, and even to human beings in general. That is NOT to give Islam a pass or say that it is somehow all religious are the same or equally valid. I don't think that at all. But I do think it's important to be respectful, both for moral and pragmatic reasons. We also need to be free to criticize Islam, though, and call out the nonsense on the left.

In a way the NZ Prime Minister is an example of the modern liberal or progressive mindset: they are everything and nothing at the same time. Everything, in that they can be a muslim for a few days by wearing a hijab, a maori the next day and something else a day later. Just like in France post atrocity, people declared themselves to be multiple things, Je suis Charlie (Hebdo), je suis pretre and many others. Nothing, in that they are utterly malleable characters without core beliefs or creeds apart from a general narcissism and will for power and fame.

Former Irish soldier and Multiple Isis bride Lisa Smith returned to Dublin airport this morning with her infant child. She was met by Gardai and was arrested on terrorism charges. Over the weekend a visiting intelligence officer from USA (media weren't allowed to give a name) actually suggested to Australia that this was a preferred way, rather than refuse re-entry into the country as the Australian government's policy is now. I'd imagine the speech was prepared before the deaths of Mr Merritt and Miss Jones a day or so before it was delivered. Returned or reformed members of extreme groups- it was a fairly impossible question even before the killing of the two young Londoners on Friday. Although knife attacks seem to be quite an epidemic in Britain, the undeniable involvement of extreme Islam, terrorism, social justice movements and rehabilitation definitely make Mr Khan's case an issue for discussion, Mr Farage and Mr Johnson very quickly picking up on it. The one bright spark was hearing of a narwhal (some said walrus) tusk being used as a weapon No author, however imaginative, could even have envisioned the likes.
